CAMPING SAFARIS IN TANZANIA

Camping safaris are ideal for those working on low budgets, and keen on feeling close to nature. Elephants will often wonder past the camp or find yourself woken up by roaring lions. These are memories that will stay with you for a long time.
Following is the range of our sample camping itineraries in  Tanzania whose purpose is to give you an overview of what we have to offer.

 
TEA-TC-MNG-3 DAYS LAKE MANYARA / NGORONGORO

Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Manyara
lionAfter breakfast, pick up from your hotel. Depart for Lake Manyara National park  via the Namanga border for immigration formalities and Arusha town for Lunch. Arrive in Lake Manyara in time for late afternoon game drive. The main attractions here are the tree climbing lions. The park is small in size but the terrain is diverse. The vegetation comprises of groundwater forest, open grassland, swamp and acacia woodland with giant mahogany and fig trees. The park is home to a wide variety of mammals and birds. Dinner and overnight at the Campsite.

Day 2: Ngorongoro
After breakfast, taking a picnic lunch with you, drive to the Ngorongoro crater and descend down its walls for a full day of crater tour with a picnic lunch. It is thrilling experience to descend down and out of the narrow and steep crater walls of 670 metres depth, which has earned this crater, also the largest in the world the title “the eight wonder in the world”. Flamingos can be seen seasonally in the Crater Lake depending on the water level as these birds only breed in shallow water. Many animals, which have made this crater their permanent home, can be seen on the crater floor. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 3: Ngorongoro – Nairobi
buffalosAfter breakfast, depart the Ngorongoro conservation area for Arusha for lunch, followed by departure for Nairobi via the Namanga border town. Arrive in the evening.

This exciting Camping safari will take you through the Ngorongoro Conservation area  and get  a glimpse of  the fascinating  Masai culture  who live within the conservation area around the Crater which is a world  heritage site,  with abudance of wildlife that is protected within the confines of the Crater walls.

TEA-TC-NGOR-3 DAYS NGORONGORODay 1: Nairobi/ Ngorongoro
After breakfast, we will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel. Depart for Arusha town via the Namanga border town for immigration formalities. Arrive in time for lunch then proceed to the crater rim for dinner and overnight.

 Day 2: Ngorongoro
After breakfast, taking a picnic lunches with you descend down to the crater floor for a full day of tracking game with your guide. The crater is 670m deep and 260km square wide, making it the largest in the world. The crater contains all the big five, hippos, cheetah, antelopes and spotted hyena. Black rhino and leopard can be seen by luck as the two are extremely shy and elusive. The birds seen here include eagle, vulture, and flamingos in the Crater Lake, stork, bats, giant vulture, sacred ibis, kori bustard, black smith plover, long necked heron and the cattle eagle. Other game such as velvet monkey, jackal, foxes, rock and tree hyraxes, warthog, gnu, zebra and hare can be seen with relative ease. You will have a break for lunch at the Ngoitoktok springs picnic site. In the evening you will ascend up and out of the narrow and steep crater walls, which is a thrilling exercise. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 3: Ngorongoro/ Nairobi
After breakfast, drive back to Arusha for lunch, bypassing maize and coffee plantations in the crater’s immediate environs, after lunch, drive to Nairobi arriving in the evening.

This is a 4 days safari featuring the home of the tree climbing lions “ Lake Manyara”, Ngorongoro Crater which is a true wonder of the Natural world which is inhabited by many species of Birds, herbivores and predators then to the remote  Tarangire National park  which serves  as a dry season refuge for animals from as far as north or Serengeti and Ngorongoro.

TEA-TC-MNT-4 DAYS LAKE MANYARA- NGORONGORO – TARANGIRE

Depart Nairobi for Arusha town for lunch, via the Namanga border town for immigration formalities. Proceed to Lake Manyara National park for afternoon game drive. A good network of tracks and roads in the park allows excellent viewing opportunities. Animals seen include buffalo and elephant, other animals present that can be seen with luck are the tree climbing lions, leopard and black rhino. Lesser flamingos and Egyptian geese are some of the birds seen here. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 2: Ngorongoro
After breakfast, depart for the Ngorongoro crater for a full day of tracking game with your guide on the crater floor. You will break for a picnic lunch at the Ngoitoktok springs picnic site. All the big five may be seen. Other species encountered are cheetah, grants gazelle, Thompson gazelle, common zebra wildebeests and spotted hyena. Flamingos may also be seen at the Crater Lake. This day will truly be an unforgettable encounter. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 3: Ngorongoro – Tarangire
After breakfast, leave Ngorongoro for Tarangire National park which serves as a dry season refuge for animals from as far as north or Serengeti and Ngorongoro as it has a permanent river flowing across it. The park has an atmosphere or remoteness and has fewer visitors than the other parks in Tanzania’s northern circuit. Arrive in time for a game drive, lunch will be taken enroute. The  park contains  all the big five except leopard, other migratory game seen here includes cape buffalo, hoopoes, lovebirds,starling,rock pythons, albino giraffe, puff adders, the fringe eared Oryx and the gerenuk. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 4: Tarangire – Nairobi
elephantAfter breakfast, proceed on your final game drive then leave for your onward journey to Nairobi via Arusha for lunch and Namanga border town for immigration formalities. Arrive in the mid evening.

During this 5 days camping safari, you will visit  the best National parks and game reserves of the northern Tanzania’s circuit. You will get the opportunity to come closer to the rare  tree climbing lions in Lake Manyara , visit the Largest crater in the world “ Ngorongoro” , unbroken volcanic caldera which is inhabited by 30,000 animals, all protected within the confines of the Crater walls. Then to Serengeti which is  famous for the annual migration of close to 800,000 zebras and wildbeests that move as a great mass across the savanna in a follow the leader fashion in search for food and water in mid july to October.

The rocky out-crops referred to as Kopjes in the eastern part of the park are of scenic beauty and occasionally various cats can be seen lazing on them. The park contains very vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and other antelopes. After your game drive you will retire for the night at the campsite.

Day 4: Serengeti
zebrasMorning and afternoon game drives in the Serengeti with a lunch and leisure break at the lodge in the mid afternoon. The term “Serengeti” mean endless plains in the Masai language. In the central plains there are carnivores like lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah. This park is normally the scene of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, which occurs between the Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara.  Variety of bird species can be seen in this park. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 5: Serengeti – Nairobi
After breakfast, depart the Serengeti for Arusha for lunch followed by your onward transfer to Nairobi via the Namanga border town for immigration formalities, arriving in the evening.

This Tanzania camping safari brings you to a  Sanctuary which is renowned for its  birdlife, tree climbing lions  and  a diverse landscape which include  swamps, fig forest and open grassland. Then to Ngorongoro Crater the largest in the world which is 270m deep and 260 square kilometers deep.
