 “BIRD WATCHERS HAVEN”

Join us for this bird watching expedition which will take you through Lake Baringo, a fresh water lake in the Great rift valley and a home to  over 350 species of birds  including some that conform to a migratory pattern, as well as  Egyptian gees which migrate all the way from western Europe. Lake Bogoria, a shallow soda lake with large number of birds including thousands of flamingos, weaver birds and pelicans. Kakamega forest, Kenyas only tropical rain forest and a world renowned as a home to several hundreds species of birds as well as countless exotic tree species.  Lake Nakuru which has a stunning flocks of lesser and greater flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores in to a magnificent pink stretch. End your tour with a visit of Lake Naivasha, and then to the cliffs of Hells gates the breeding ground for vultures, verreauxs eagles, augur buzzards and thousands of swifts.

Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Baringo
flamingoesWe will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast. Thereafter drive through Limuru tea farms, descending to the floor of the Great Rift Valley with a brief stop at the view point. Mt Longonot which is of volcanic origin and lake Naivasha can be seen from far enroute to Lake Baringo one of the two fresh lakes in the Rift valley and a bird watchers paradise. After lunch, have  an hour’s  boat ride which enables you to see hippos at close range and the bird life that inhabits this lake as over 350 species  of birds have been recorded here including some  that conform to a migratory pattern, as well as crocodiles and Egyptian gees which migrate all the way from western Europe. In the evening, have guided walk by our resident Ornithologist then retire for the night in the Lodge.

Day 2: Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria
birdAfter your morning bird watching session with your Ornithologist, depart for Lake Bogoria, a shallow soda lake which is a home to a large number of birds and rare lesser kudu. Scalding hot springs and geysers at the southern end of the lakes spurt and steam their alkaline waters. The bubbling of hot springs, hundreds of singing weaverbirds and a million flamingos feeding in the bluish water present a rare scenic beauty. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 3: Lake Bogoria – kakamega    
Drive to kakamegea National reserve after breakfast. This is the country’s  only tropical rain forest and formed part of the dense rain forest that stretched from west Africa, across central Africa and in to the highland areas East and west of the Great Rift valley. The forest is world renowned as a home to several hundred species of birds including rare snake eating birds, insects, monkeys and other mammals as well as countless exotic tree species. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 4: Kakamega
After breakfast, spend a full day in the Kakamega national reserve with bird walks accompanied by game wardens and our driver/guides. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 5: Kakamega – Lake Nakuru
birdDrive to Lake Nakuru national park after an early breakfast, arriving at the Lake Nakuru Lodge in time for lunch. The park is a home to stunning flocks of lesser and greater flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores in to a magnificent pink stretch. The birdlife here is world renown and over 400 species can be seen like the white pelicans, marabou storck, and other water birds that breed in the lake’s alkaline waters. White rhino, Rothschild giraffe can be seen as well as many varieties of plain game. Dinner and overnight at the Lake Nakuru.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha
A pre breakfast bird spotting drive in the park and around the lake before returning to the Lodge for breakfast. Drive to Hells gate National Park with a brief stop at the lake Elementaita view point. The park is famous of its natural steaming geysers and a haven for birdwatchers. The walking/hiking in the park gives once a sense of freedom, open birdspace and a clear view of wildlife. The cliffs are breeding ground for vultures, verreauxs eagles, augur buzzards and thousands of swifts. Over 120 species have been recorded here. Lunch at Lake Naivasha Lodge and the afternoon will be spend at leisure either to explore the rich, birdlife filled gardens or an optional boat ride to the crescent Island at an extra cost. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 7: Lake Naivasha – Nairobi
After a leisurely breakfast, drive back to Nairobi and drop off at your Hotel or Airport to catch your scheduled flight back home.
